[K] KERYGMA Preacher Wannabe
Each of you has been blessed with one of God’s many wonderful gifts to be used in the service of others. So use your gift well. If you have the gift of speaking, preach God’s message. I you have the gift of helping others, do it with the strength that God supplies. Everything should be done in a way that will bring honor to God because of Jesus Christ, who is glorious and powerful forever. Amen. 1 Peter 4:10-11, CEV.
I have been reading “How To Know If Your Dreams Are God’s Dreams-Finding His Will In Your Deepest Desires” by Bo Sanchez; and as I reflect on it I have come to think of something I have never thought before. What are my Soul Dreams? What do I really, really, really want in life?
Looking to my half-full life this is what I found out.
My Roots
I love to tell stories. We grew up telling our stories to two of the most fantastic listeners in the world, my mom and my dad.
We were trained by our parents to express ourselves telling our stories. I remember my father will ask us one by one to tell something about our day. This happens on our dining table, during supper. Since I’m the eldest I’ll go first, my sister and younger brothers will follow.
Everyday we we’re asked to tell something either be about school or not. My mom and my dad are such a great listeners, they’ll just listen. They don’t interrupt. Which make us do the same, we listen first.
Until now we still practice story-telling every family meal or whenever we feel like doing it. We’re grownups now but that doesn’t make us mute about our life. We still love to share our stories, especially the funny ones.
Thus telling stories is one of my roots. I’ll tell you more of it, keep on reading.
Hopeless Romantic
One day a friend asked me to write a love letter for his crush, which I did. I wrote several love letters for her. By the end of the term, my friend won the heart of his crush. It might be because of the cheezy lines and other stuff I wrote about her or she just loved my friend. I don’t know about her but there’s one thing I sure know about that time, that I can write. And I love doing it.
The news secretly spread: that I’m writing love letters. One by one my classmates will ask me to write love letters for their crushes and since I have wrote some reserved for my crush, I just changed the name. Sometimes it works, sometimes not but since then I have develop a gift, writing.
After love letters I started writing poems. This time it’s more personal I can’t lend it to my friends. It’s actually about my life’s love story. I’m writing it since I was on second year high school, up to now I still add to it. It’ll be one of my wedding gifts for my wife; a self-titled book of poems entitled “Redacted Thoughts For My Wife To Be”.
Aside from telling stories, I also love to write.
My Third Passion
My third passion is music. I learned to play the guitar when I was on third year high school and since then I love making music.
Since I write poems, I also write songs. Most of the time, I just put music to my poems and voila! I just made a song.
I played for several bands but none of them make it on main stream, even independent. But my passion for music never dies, I still have it now. I may not be a very good guitar player but I love doing it. I have a passion for music.
Urge To Serve
I had my first spiritual conversion when I was on grade school, but through my younger years it was never steady. Not until I joined UE CCP (University of the East Christian Communities Programs). I have told you my UE CCP story on my “Treasure In Clay Jars” blog, UE CCP has really changed my life.
After I graduated and left school for the real world I almost left serving the Lord. I don’t feel like serving for our local parish here in Bulacan so I was stocked-up doing nothing for the Lord but to attend Sunday mass.
I have joined other Christian fellowship but my spiritual hunger to serve the Lord in ways I can advance His kingdom was never filled. I may have been growing up my faith but I’m not doing any service at all but to attend Sunday’s preaching and small Bible study group.
I Was Brought To The Feast
August last year (2009) my girlfriend and I were invited to attend a Bo Sanchez talk.
“It was like a seminar type talk after the mass.”, I remember my girlfriend’s cousin told us. “It happens on Valle Verde Country Club on Pasig every Sunday.”
Since then my girlfriend and I were a regular Feast attendee. And it has blessed me and my family extremely.
Roots Will Lead To Fruits
Friends, now that you know that two of my passions are telling stories and writing poems and love letters it’s obvious I wanted to serve the Lord by sharing His mercies, graces and goodness to my life by writing (blogging) and preaching His words and to be a living testimony of His unconditional love.
I have come to realize that the confidence of sharing my life-stories to others and the writing skills I have developed though the years can be very helpful in advancing God’s kingdom.
I may have not written best selling books or a Catholic preacher by now, but I believe I can be. Anyway the roots will always lead the fruits.
A Soul Dream Was Born
A soul dream was born. I’m a K (Kerygma) Preacher wannabe. It has passed the four qualification of a soul dream: (1) that the dream is connected to my most important values, (2) that the dream must bring me closer to God, (3) that the dream must be connected to my life’s purpose and core gifts; and (4) that the dream must make me happy in the deepest way possible.
I’m a K Preacher wannabe and as a practice and preparation for it I’ll write something about The Feast talk series topics and some reflection of the gospel.
I’ll strive to do it just how the K Preachers are doing it. In plain ordinary words easy for an ordinary person to understand and reflect. That’s what made me stay at The Feast and that’s how I will write my blogs.
But above all these blogging and preaching, these things will be done in a way that will bring honor to God. Not to man but to God and to God alone.
In HIM,

P.S.
I encourage you to dig up what your roots are and discover your soul dreams. Remember it is only you who can give it to the world. And I believe that’s what God wanted you to do.
