Live A Life Of No Rush

Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. - Matthew 6:34, NIV.

Hurry Sickness

Leslie is an accountant for a pharmaceutical company.

Life has always been busy for Leslie. She reports for office early in the morning and leaves late at night. Her official work days are from Mondays to Fridays but she often reports for work during Saturdays updating their company's books and doing government reports.

Leslie is a one-woman Accounting Department.

Every morning when she wakes up she's rushing her way to the office, taking the shortest route possible, tailing the fastest vehicle, honking her horn one nanosecond after the green light, parking on the nearest possible parking slot and running her way to the elevator.

Leslie types so fast. She knows almost all keyboard shortcuts on MS Office and has an organized desktop links for faster desktop navigation. She talks so fast. She aims to end a phone conversation at a maximum of one minute. She eats fast. Fifteen minutes after twelve and you'll see her pounding on her keyboard.

However, Leslie has a fantasy, to spend a week on vacation. That is no work for five days. She's been thinking of it, dreaming of it and has been praying for it.

She often dreams of how she will spend her five days, "Day one I'm going to bungee jump. Day two I'll go kayak. Day three mountain hiking, on day four I'll surf. Finally on day five I'll take my time sleeping the whole day."

God grants her prayer.

One day her boss called her and approved her vacation leave plus giving her a five days vacation spree at the Camiguin Island.

While on vacation however her mind is locked on her office table. The reports she submitted last week, her pending GS1 application, her upcoming financial reports presentation next week, BIR reports, pending supplier invoices and all the documents lying dead on her in-out tray. She ends up rushing her five days vacation.

Live In Your Now

Are you a Leslie? Most of you can relate to Leslie's story. I can tell because I was once a Leslie. I was once "hurry sick".

According to Meyer Friedman, "Hurry sickness is a continuous struggle and unremitting attempt to accomplish or achieve more and more things and participate in more and more events in less and less time, frequently in the face of opposition real or imagined from other person."

Hurry sick people are missing one of the most important moment of their lives, their now.

Friends my big message for you today is, "If you want to be happy, you must live in your now. That is living in the present moment, being awake, being aware, being mindful, being conscious and embracing what is happening now. That is embracing God's love as it happens, where it happens."

Hurry Sick People Are Not Happy

Hurry sick people are not happy. Why? Because hurry sick people are not fit to love, because love and hurry are fundamentally incompatible. Because love always takes time and time is one thing that hurry sick people don't have.

So if not loving enough is the most painful regret, hurry sick people do have a lot of painful regrets. They are missing the opportunity to love and be loved. They are missing the greatest gift God has been giving to them, the gift of love.

The Two Thieves

"We crucify ourselves between two thieves: Regret for yesterday and fear of tomorrow." - Fulton Oursler

Protect yourselves from these two thieves.

Surrender all your regrets and fears to God.

New Every Morning

Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead - Philippians 3:13, NIV.

One day Jack and Jill (before they went up the hill to fetch a pail of water) met on the road.

Jill noticed that Jack looked very sad, almost weepy.

She asked him, "What's wrong, Jack?"

Jack cried, "Three weeks ago my aunt died and left me an inheritance of P100,000."

Jill was surprised. "Well that isn't too bad."

Jack shook his head. "That's not the end of the story. Two weeks ago my uncle died and left me an inheritance of P500,000."

"My gosh, I'd like that," Jill said.

Jack wailed and said, "That's not all. Last week, my grandfather died and left me an inheritance of P2 Million."

Jill was blown away. She said, "That's fantastic! Why are you so sad?"

Jack cried and said, "Because this week, nothing! No one died!

Friends if you want to live in your now and be really happy, don't get fixated with your past blessings. You can't live on yesterday's manna. God gives different blessings each day, God's gift of underserved grace is new every morning.

So learn to appreciate what God is giving you today. Receive it, feel it as it happens.

God's Buffet Table

Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. - Matthew 6:34, NIV.

One day Ping invited Pong to an eat all you can buffet.

Pong can't pass such an offer, so he said yes to Ping.

While on their way to the restaurant Pong asked Ping, "Hey Ping, what are they serving there? Do they have Chicken and Pork Adobo, or Pork Sisig, or Kare-Kare perhaps?"

"They have everything. They serve all kinds of food." Ping replied.

As they lined up at the buffet table different kinds of cuisines are before them. Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Thai, Russian, Italian, French, native Filipino dishes are among others. Pong, the Filipino as he is, looks for Chicken and Pork Adobo. But he can't find one.

He tried looking for Kare-Kare and Pork Sisig but to no avail. So he asks the waiter.

"Ah waiter, do you have Chicken and Pork Adobo?"

"Sir, it is being prepared in the kitchen and it will be served later, why not try some of our Chinese cuisines?"

"No thanks. I don't see any Kare-Kare here on the buffet table. Do you have Kare-Kare?"

"Sir, it is in the kitchen, Chef is working on it now. Why not try some of our French cuisines? I'm sure you're going to love it."

"No thanks. How about Pork Sisig, do you have Pork Sisig here?"

"Sir, we served it 15 minutes ago and it's a fast buy. Chef is currently preparing its second serving now. It may take some more minutes. Why not try something served in the buffet table. All our dishes are top notch, you'll gonna love it."

"No thanks. I'll wait for your Chicken and Pork Adobo, Kare-Kare and Pork Sisig."

And Pong sits down with an empty plate waiting for his Adobo, Kare-Kare and Sisig.

Dear friends, if you want to live in your now and be really happy, enjoy what is currently served on God's buffet table. There you will find supernatural provisions, divine appointments, God-coincidences, God's presence, God's peace, God given connections, God's joy and God's love. All you will ever need and wanted are served. They are every where and they are all found in your now.

Wherever You Are, Be There

Do you want to be happy? One key to happiness is mastering the Art of Being.

We are supposed to be human beings. But life can be so much busy, instead of being human beings we tend to be human doings.

Most of the time we are not present in the here and the now, if not regretting about our past we look forward and worry about the future.

So let me give you the golden rule of living in the present and enjoying your now, "Wherever you are, be there."

Deliberately Eliminate Hurry From Your Life

How to cure hurry sickness? (a) By Deliberately Slowing Down. (b) By Having a Daily Time of Solitude (Practice Daily Quiet Time).

Deliberately Slow Down

Deliberately and purposefully slow down.

If you are driving, deliberately drive in the slow lane.

If you are looking for a parking area, deliberately look for the farthest spot available in the parking lot.

When choosing a checkout lane, deliberately choose the longest line in the grocery.

If you are eating, deliberately chew your food slowly.
If you are preparing for an appointment or a meeting, deliberately leave your house/office ten minutes earlier.

If you are talking with someone, deliberately listen patiently and speak clearly and slowly.

The key there is deliberately. Make it on purpose. Make it your objective. Slow down.

More than deliberately slowing down, you should always put love in everything you do. Because love will inspire you to be patient, love will lead you to slow down.

Practice Daily Quiet Time

The next morning Jesus went out to a place where he could be alone […] Luke 4:42.

A group of Boy Scouts goes on camping. The platoon leader grouped his scouts and gave them their assigned tasks.

Three scouts will fetch water from the nearest river to fill in their water container. Seven scouts were assigned to put up the tent. Four scouts were assigned to clean up the camping site and two scouts were assigned to gather dried sticks to be used to setup a fire.

Off they go. The two scouts scampered over the woods to gather dried tree branches.

Several minutes later, the tents are all setup, the water container filled with water, the camping ground is all well cleaned but the two boys weren't back from picking dried woods.

The platoon waited for them to return. They waited… and waited… but to no avail. The concerned scout master and platoon leader finally went out into the woods looking for the two boys. Curios platoon members followed them. Few meters away from the camping site, they found the missing duo seated on the ground, dried sticks at their feet, strawberries and smiles on their faces.

How long since you did the same? We need regular recalibrations. Besides, who couldn't use a few strawberries? But who has time to gather them? You have businesses to run; sales quota to hit; financial reports to submit; product presentation to present; machines, organizations and budgets to run. You got to run.

Jesus understands the frenzy of life. People's calendars are filled with demands. But He also knew how to deliberately step away where He could be alone with His Father.

Pick a place and time where you could be alone with God. It doesn't have to be desolate, just quiet. Simply a place to which you, like Jesus "Went out to a place where you could be alone," alone to think, to ponder and to recalibrate your life's purpose.

Practice daily time of solitude. Determine the time. Select a place. Bring your Bible. And deliberately press the pause button of your life.

Quit Waiting

A lot of people just wait.

When we're a kid, we wait to be old enough to go to school.

When we're at school, we wait to get a job.

When we are working, we wait for our retirement.

When we are single, we wait to get married.

When we get married, we wait to have a baby.

When we've got babies, we wait for them to grow up.

When we've got teens, we wait for them to mature.

Friends, quit waiting. If you are living your now, you will never have to wait again in your life, because waiting means focusing on the future. Don't waste your time waiting. Besides you don't have to wait for big miracles to happen because everyday, every moment of your life is a miracle. Your now is a miracle, live it, enjoy it.

Enjoy your life now, live it.

Breathe in God's love.

Live in God's grace.

Live a life of no rush.

Enjoy your now.

To God be the glory forever and ever. Amen.

P.S.

Even Buddhist believes that true bliss can be found in living in your now. Here is a quote from Buddha, "Don't chase after the past, don't seek the future; the past is gone, the future hasn't come. But see clearly on the spot the object which is now, while finding and living in a still, unmoving stat of mind."
